Marnie Reilly Interview—Meet My Main Character

I met Marnie Reilly about fifteen years ago when I wrote the first line of a short story that would become Divine Guidance, Book 1 in the Marnie Reilly Mysteries series. Whether I am working, gardening, walking in the forest with my pack, or falling asleep, Marnie is the voice in my head telling me to get off my butt and get back to Creekwood with her, Tater, Dickens, Tom, and Danny.

As we both struggle to come to terms with the aftermath of Fatal Vow’s explosive conclusion, I thought it would be fun to interview my main character.

It could have gone better. Marnie is still pissed at me.

SHARI: Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know about you?

MARNIE: I suppose that’s relative to the person asking.

SHARI: Okay. How about readers?

MARNIE: All readers? Or people who read Divine Guidance and Torn Veil?

SHARI: All readers.

MARNIE: Well, I’m a psychologist. I live on a ranch in Creekwood, New York, and I have two beautiful Border Collies named Tater and Dickens.

SHARI: Is that all you want to share?

MARNIE: Uh… Yes. [GLANCES OUT OF THE CORNER OF HER EYE]

SHARI: Look, I know you’ve been through a rough time lately. These people don’t want to hurt you. They just want to know more about you.

MARNIE: [GREEN EYES FLASH WITH ANGER] A rough time? Are you freaking kidding me? You make it sound like I fell off my bicycle and skinned my knees. Do you know what you put me through? Have you got any idea how much pain I am in?

SHARI: Okay. Maybe this was too soon.

MARNIE: Ya think? [WITH A RUDE GESTURE, SHE LEAVES THE ROOM.]
