The power of positive thinking has been touted as a cure-all for years. I do believe that positive thinking is a great asset and that the more positive we are in our approach to life, the happier we are – full-stop.
Sometimes when we are on our adventures it is hard to remain positive. There are times when life just seems to keep dumping us in shit at every turn. Remaining positive is a chore.
When those times hit, you grin, bear it, look up to the sky and say, “My good comes to me in surprising ways”. Yup, you have to do it. So many people are surprised when good stuff comes out of the shit they have been dumped in and when it is all over, they wonder how they ever survived. Would you call it perseverance, stubbornness, faith? Or, is just so important to stay positive in the midst of crisis that the positivity pulls us out of the dark and into the light at the end of the tunnel.
And remember, shit is great fertilizer. It helps us to grow.
There have been times that I have been in the midst of a crisis and need to pull myself out of the muck and mire. When I go to bed after a hard day, I look up and say, “Thank you, Universe for the experiences of the day and thank you for my wonderful day tomorrow”. As soon as I wake up in the morning, I look up and say, “Thank you, Universe for my wonderful day”. Now I am not saying that everything is going to be instantly ducky. I am just saying that if I stay positive, the Universe will deliver a brighter day – it has to – I thanked for it in advance.
Being grateful for the smallest things in life – a butterfly, a soft breeze at the end of hot, hot day, the laughter of a child, a nuzzle from your dog, a smile from a stranger in the street. Say thank you for those lovely moments.
People over the years I know have been considered me a bit of a nut because I say thank you quite loudly sometimes. When I get the perfect parking spot in a busy lot I often shout out, “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” It doesn’t matter if the windows are open or someone is in the car with me – I say it regardless. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
And doing a bit of happy dance to go with the thank you is a ritual I have performed on many occasions. Closing the never-ending deal, getting an appointment with the elusive target, finding $20 in the bottom of my handbag three days before pay-day, realizing that there is a package of cookies in the cupboard I had forgotten about, realizing that I didn’t get up a late after all because daylight savings ended and I forgot to change the clocks – there are so many reasons to be thankful.
I am thankful everyday for my family, my friends, my dogs, my Jeep, my home, the sky, the trees, the rivers and oceans, the soil, the air I breathe. I am thankful for my wonderful life
