The Four Clairs: A Psychic’s Toolkit in the Shadows

In the world of Marnie Reilly, intuition is more than a feeling—it’s a weapon, a clue, a warning, and sometimes a curse. Her psychic edge comes from the Four Clairs. These intuitive senses help her navigate murder scenes, her haunted past, and secrets people would kill to keep buried. How does it work?

👁️ Clairvoyance—Clear seeing

This is the psychic’s mind’s eye. Marnie receives flashes—symbols, visions, sometimes full scenes. Most without warning. A man on a cliff. Blood on a doorknob. A shadow where no one stands. She sees what others don’t and often wishes her sixth sense had blinds. There’s nothing like having a shower, feeling a presence, only to see you are not alone. Hey! Ghosts don’t care what you’re doing. If they want you to see them, you will.

👂 Clairaudience—Clear hearing

Whispered answers. Footsteps no one else hears. Warnings echoing from the other side of the veil. Whether it’s a disembodied voice or a loquacious specter, Marnie Reilly’s days and nights are filled with chatter. Can she stop the clamor? Well, that depends on the day. But sometimes she does a meditation, visualizes closing a door and locking it, while yelling, “You’re on your own tonight, ghosts. Office hours are over.”

Hear Spirits

🫀 Clairsentience—Clear feeling

This is the empath’s curse. Marnie can walk into a room and feel what happened there. Joy. Love. Sadness. A murder victim’s fear and pain. If she’s not careful, she absorbs everything. That’s why she carries a piece of black tourmaline in her pocket most days. Think of it as emotional armor—grounding, absorbing, and deflecting what doesn’t belong to her.

🧠 Claircognizance—Clear knowing

No logic. No evidence. Just truth, dropped into her mind like a puzzle piece she didn’t know was missing. The psychologist in her wants proof—but she’s a psychic and already knows the teeny morsel of evidence that popped into her head is a fact. Now she has to make it fit into the larger picture forming front of her. And in the murder game, knowing is the most dangerous thing of all.

The Four Clairs aren’t parlor tricks or party games. They’re the tools Marnie Reilly relies on to piece together the unthinkable and confront the darkness others can’t see. But insight comes at a cost. When you see what is hidden, hear the dead, feel emotions that linger, and know in your gut what no one dares to say … the real question isn’t whether you can solve the mystery. It’s can you survive until the last page?

The Psychic’s Bag of Tricks

Ever wonder what other crystals Marnie Reilly keeps close by? Here are her favorites:

🤍 Smoky Quartz : The Grounding Filter

Smoky Quartz is ideal for empaths who need to stay grounded while still being open. It doesn’t block feelings—it filters them, helping her sort her emotions from everyone else’s. It calms anxiety, clears psychic noise, and returns her to herself.

🪨 Hematite: The Mirror Shield

Hematite is dense, magnetic, and grounding. It reflects negative energy back to its source, making it ideal for crowded or placed charged with heaps of emotions. When Marnie feels bombarded, hematite anchors in her body and truth. It keeps her real.

🟣 Amethyst : The Psychic Stabilizer

Amethyst soothes the crown and third eye chakras, offering intuitive clarity without overloading senses,. That purple gem helps stop spiritual burnout. It’s like a psychic dimmer switch—still connected, but in control. And also better than shots of tequila, which also dims, but throws self-control out the window.

🖤 Black Tourmaline : The Bodyguard Stone

This is the go-to crystal for energetic protection. It acts like a psychic shield, repelling negativity and keeping unwanted emotional energy at bay. Think of it as emotional armor—grounding, absorbing, and deflecting what doesn’t belong to her.

Sage, salt, tar water, tarot cards, Runes, a pendulum, and other bits and bobs complete her kit, but you can read about those in Marnie Reilly Mysteries books one through four.😉

Hope you enjoyed this insight into the psychic psychologist’s world. A good friend suggested it be added to the back matter of the next book. I like her idea. Do you?

All Authors Book Cover of the Month Contest

Woo! Hoo! We made it to the second round! 📚Vacant Grave (Marnie Reilly Mysteries Book 4), is a contender in round two of the All Authors Cover of the Month contest – May 2025. 🥇 I would greatly appreciate your support. Please vote for the cover at the following https://allauthor.com/cover-of-the-month/19533/

A huge thank you to Nicole Ballingal for her creative genius and for always designing the perfect cover to complement my stories. She has supported me since the beginning and I couldn’t do it without her. 🐑🪨

Coming 2025—Divine Guidance Second Edition

I am halfway through the edits to the second edition of Marnie Reilly Mysteries Book One, and I cannot wait to release it later this year. The target date is October 31, 2025. That gives me enough time to complete the edits, rewrite the back cover, finalize the cover art, and have this beauty formatted with maps of Marnie’s house on Creek Road, Town Square, and the surrounds of Danny’s cabin. And I am still thinking about one for the inside of the detective’s cabin.

For those who loved the original, don’t worry. The plot has not changed, nor have the cast of characters—except for a few tweaks here and there. What you will find is a polished story, complementing the latest in the series. After all, I never intended to write a series. One book was all I planned back in 2014/15. Anyway … With book five, Devil’s Dance, in draft, it’s important to me that DG got the love it deserved. Torn Veil, too. Yep. There’s a second edition coming for book two, as well.

Drop a note in the comments and let me know if you’re keen to hear more about Detective Danny Gregg’s backstory. If so, Devil’s Dance will deliver. His past partner, Terri Tremaine, and his previous boss, Dillard Brown, look forward to introducing themselves. 😉

I’ll be back with more book news in a week or two. Thanks so much for spending time with Marnie and me.

Happy Mother’s Day!

See you soon!👋
