Meet Lilian Martin, Author Brook Peterson’s Character

Meet Lilian Martin, matriarch of the Jericho Falls Cozy Mystery series, and Chloe Martin’s grandmother. Having read this brilliant cozy mystery series, I can tell you, Grandma Lily is a gal anyone, who doesn’t mind hearing the truth of a matter, would love to be their grandmother and friend.

Here’s what the grand dame of Jericho Falls had to say:

QUESTION: What’s your full name?

LILLIAN MARTIN: Lilian Martin

QUESTION: How old are you?

LILLIAN MARTIN: Don’t be silly, dear. A lady never reveals her age.

QUESTION: When’s your birthday?

LILLIAN MARTIN: October 16

QUESTION: Where were you born?

LILLIAN MARTIN: I was born right here in Jericho Falls. My aunt was a midwife and she said I came into the world pink and smiling and raring to go.

QUESTION: Are you a main character?

LILLIAN MARTIN: I’m what you call a side-kick. And boy, is Chloe lucky to have me. She needs a swift kick once in a while.

QUESTION: Do you have any nicknames?

LILLIAN MARTIN: Lily or Lil.

QUESTION: Do you have a catchphrase?

LILLIAN MARTIN: I don’t have a catchphrase, but I have an uncanny way of coming up with an important saying or piece of advice for Chloe as she solves each case.

QUESTION: What do you do for work/career?

LILLIAN MARTIN: I am the owner of Jericho House. It’s the largest, most stately historic mansion in Jericho Falls and it’s been in my late husband’s family for generations. I’m honored to be the one giving the daily tours and renting out space for bridal showers and birthday celebrations and the like. I’m so happy Chloe is back in town, helping me these days. Someday she will be the hostess of the mansion.

QUESTION: Without giving anything away, do you have scars? Physical or emotional?

LILLIAN MARTIN: I do miss my husband dearly. He’s been gone now for almost a decade. But time marches on and I am doing my best.

QUESTION: How many stories have you been in?

LILLIAN MARTIN: I’m in all the Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries; three novels and three novellas so far. Heck, I’m responsible for turning Chloe into a sleuth since I ended up being the chief suspect in a murder investigation. She didn’t have a choice but to solve the case and clear my name. The rest is history!

QUESTION: As a character, who is your favorite character in your stories?

LILLIAN MARTIN: I’m biased of course, but I have to choose my wonderful granddaughter Chloe. She’s smart as a whip and always comes through.

QUESTION: How about a love interest? Do you have a significant other?

LILLIAN MARTIN: I had a fake boyfriend once. You’ll have to read the series to learn more.

QUESTION: Do you ever lie? Or are you always truthful?

LILLIAN MARTIN: There are times when we have to stretch the truth to get to the truth, dear.

QUESTION: Do you have a pet?

LILLIAN MARTIN: Elliot is my cat. He’s a big tuxie who adopted me a few summers back. We also have Jed, Chloe’s golden retriever. They’re such good boys.

QUESTION: What’s your favorite food?

LILLIAN MARTIN: I love tea. I think a hot cup and a talk with a good friend can solve most problems. My favorite flavor is a sweet and spicy blend by Good Earth Teas.

QUESTION: What music do you like?

LILLIAN MARTIN: All kinds of music! I generally have my wireless headphones in so I can bee-bop to good tunes while I’m taking my daily walk or cleaning the mansion.

QUESTION: Do you like to read? What sort of books?

LILLIAN MARTIN: My friends and I love a good mystery. That’s why we started the Poison Pen Book Club here in town. We meet regularly at Jericho House. We’ve even helped Chloe solve a few tricky cases.

QUESTION: Do you drive? If so, what type of vehicle do you have? Or do you walk? Take public transportation?

LILLIAN MARTIN: I drive a 1990s white Subaru. But I also take a daily walk around town to stay nimble.

QUESTION: What’s the most beautiful thing you have ever seen?

LILLIAN MARTIN: The majestic Jericho Falls. They’re dangerous, yet beautiful.

QUESTION: What’s the most horrendous thing you have ever seen?

LILLIAN MARTIN: A dead man in my flower bed.

QUESTION: Does your author make you do stupid things? If so, would you like to share an example?

LILLIAN MARTIN: Brook hasn’t made me do anything embarrassing so far. But I do wish she’d put me in a car chase or give me a hot date sometime.
